"Saturday social" - some questions answered....

I've been getting lots of questions about our 'Saturday social' lately.  So here are some answers/info.....

What is it?
It's a meet-up of the running club to do a long, slow distance run each week.
Where?
It changes each week.  We tend to stay local to Over, Swavesey, Cottenham areas, but have been known to travel further afield....
So how do I know where you'll be?
You'll need to look at the Facebook page or ask to be added to our email distribution list.  The meeting point goes up there on the Friday (usually early morning).  We usually meet at 3:30pm on Saturdays but this may change based on lighting etc. (changes will be on Facebook/emails)  We always meet somewhere with good parking and will be the chatty crowd in hi-viz - you can't miss us....
How fast do you go?
We have all abilities, and we train for different distances.  The idea is that we end up in clusters of similar speeds, and then all meet up at the finish to compare notes.  It is possible to run/walk the routes.  And if you're speedy you can always do two laps!
How far do you go?
This is based on general consensus really.  Just before popular local races (Bonfire Burn, Great East, Cambridge Half, Ely 10k) we'll be doing appropriate training distances for those.  Otherwise you normally find a 5k, 10k and anything else you request.  If we have a few people injured we've been known to do a 'doggy walk' route as well!
Do you have run leaders and coaches taking part?
Yes.  But they're there as participants so don't expect any coaching (you may get some if you happen to run with the right people though!).  If you want coaching then come to one of our club nights.
So I just turn up?
Well, yes and no.  It's very informal, so we never know who will be there.  So, you may (uncommonly) be the only one doing your route, or you may be faster/slower than anyone doing your distance, or you may be paired up with people with zero sense of direction (we have several....).  So please make sure you know the route!  It is traditional for certain people (you know who you are...) to get lost during Saturday social, but please make sure you have some idea of where you're going!  It would be a good idea to bring a phone if you do have a tendency to get lost!  But other than that, yes, just turn up.
How much is it?
Free to anyone that fancies it, even if you don't usually run with us. A great opportunity to explore different villages with friendly company - if you don't like running on your own, then this is the perfect solution.
What about dogs, kids etc?
Friendly dogs and well-behaved kids welcome (hmm, or should that be well-behaved dogs and friendly kids?).  We can make sure that routes are buggy friendly if you give us some notice!

I hope that's answered everything!  If not, please email with any other queries and I'll get them added!
